Access and login

Application for access

The UDE’s central high-performance computers are available to all UDE employees primarily for their research activities in the field of scientific computing. The main focus here is on applications in the areas of massively parallel simulations and machine learning/artificial intelligence. However, use is also available to a certain extent following prior consultation with the HPC support team. The distribution of computing times is guaranteed by a so-called fair-share concept, which is based on fixed quotas for computing times depending on the user group.

A low-threshold application procedure must be completed for each user in order to guarantee the intended use and correct allocation of quota groups.

Please note: Direct connection to the HPC-systems is only possible from the network (intranet) of the UDE. Otherwise a VPN-connection must be establized before, see below.

From network (intranet) of UDE

magnitUDE

The login process using ssh and a SSH-Key-Pair is described here in detail. Please note that the activation of the login in the selfcare portal described in this document is no longer necessary. You may connect to one of the three login nodes:

  • login01.magnitude.uni-due.de

  • login02.magnitude.uni-due.de

  • login03.magnitude.uni-due.de

amplitUDE

The login process using ssh is done with a 2FA-authentication (password + OTP-token). Thereby, the general OTP-token provided together with the UDE-account is used. Details see Information on two-factor authentication

For the access to amplitUDE a jump host is provided which provides load balancing across the frontend nodes of the cluster. This jump host login.hpc.uni-due.de can be accessed using (replace USERNAME with your lowercase UDE account name)

ssh USERNAME@login.hpc.uni-due.de

Afterwards, login to the frontend nodes can be established simply by using the command

ssh amplitude

For a (user-friendly) direct pass-through login to the frontend nodes, see details on -ssh access-

From extern (via VPN)

The HPC systems are not directly available from outside the UDE network (intranet). Thus, a VPN connection into the UDE network must be established first. The procedure for using the VPN is described on the following web pages:

Please note:

  • UDE members can use Forcepoint VPN as well as eduVPN

  • Guest academics must use Forcepoint VPN and thereby the gateway split.vpn.uni-due.de.
